Director of Youth Ministries (full time)
Suntree United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministries to lead a Christ-centered ministry with middle and high school students. This is an essential role within an open and welcoming congregation that proudly places youth at the center of its life and mission. Suntree has a strong history of thriving youth ministry, a committed core group of students positioned for growth, and invested adult leaders eager to partner in ministry. Located in a growing Space Coast community shaped by beach culture, this position offers the opportunity to build on a solid foundation while shaping the future of student ministry.
The Director of Youth Ministries provides vision, leadership, and pastoral care, cultivating a ministry centered on discipleship, belonging, service, and spiritual growth, and ensuring youth are fully integrated into the worshiping and serving life of the church.
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship
- Lead a Christ-centered youth ministry that cultivates discipleship, belonging, and spiritual growth for middle and high school students.
- Teach biblically grounded, engaging messages and provide pastoral care, prayer, and support to students and families.
- Ensure youth are meaningfully connected to the worshiping and serving life of the church.
Program & Ministry Development
- Plan and lead weekly gatherings, small groups, special events, retreats, and mission opportunities.
- Build on the church’s strong missions history and create a clear pathway for ministry growth.
- Develop new connections with local schools and the broader community to expand reach and engagement.
Volunteer Leadership & Safety
- Recruit, equip, and support adult leaders who invest relationally and spiritually in students.
- Train leaders and uphold policies for the protection of children, youth, and adults, ensuring a safe and consistent ministry environment.
- Foster a healthy, mission-focused volunteer team culture with clear expectations and support.
Administration, Budget, & Fundraising
- Manage ministry planning, communication, calendar coordination, and basic administration.
- Steward the youth ministry budget and resources with accountability and clarity.
- Lead and support fundraising efforts for youth missions within a congregation with a well-developed culture of generosity.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the mission and ministries of Suntree United Methodist Church.
Compensation & Schedule
- Starting salary: $55,000, with additional compensation considered based on experience and advanced degrees.
- Full-time position with regular Sunday and evening responsibilities; schedule coordinated with supervisor.
- Position remains open until filled; employment contingent upon background checks.
Job Requirements
- A personal and growing Christian faith, with a clear calling to ministry with youth.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in youth ministry or a closely related ministry context.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees welcomed.
- Demonstrated experience in ministry growth and fundraising, particularly related to youth missions.
- Strong relational, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an open and inclusive congregational environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to successfully pass required background checks and complete all child, youth, and adult protection training.
- Experience supervising and supporting staff or key ministry leaders with clear direction and accountability.
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the church campus for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds (supplies, equipment, event materials).
- Ability to participate in youth activities, retreats, and mission trips, including overnight and off-site events.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours as required by ministry programming.
