Simple Gifts: Scarcity to Sufficiency (Contemporary)

Today in Worship we begin our sermon series, “Simple Gifts.” Based on the familiar Shaker folk song, throughout this series we will remember God has given us many gifts through his son, Jesus Christ, and in God’s Creation. As we reflect with gratitude on those simple gifts, we’ll consider what it means to give back a portion of our own simple gifts through our worship, giving, and serving. We will remember that it is the simple gifts we can give back to God that help reorient us to faith in God and God’s Kingdom. Today, we will think about Matthew 6 and God’s command to not worry. When we look at the world, we can hear that God clothes and feeds even the lilies, and we do not have to be afraid. These simple gifts help us be grateful for all God has given to us and move us from a scarcity mentality to trust in God’s provision.
