Older Adult Ministries:
Celebrating God’s Gift of Long
Life
Suntree United Methodist Church (SUMC) is a family
of believers whose goal is to further God’s kingdom. We are
committed to Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit and dedicated to providing an
atmosphere where all can come to know the Lord and grow in His blessings.
The following is a summary of opportunities available for growth in your
Christian Life. All activities gladly welcome new members.
"TNT" (Time
N
Talent)
A monthly luncheon and program meeting for couples and singles for
friendship, food, fun and fellowship is usually held on the last Friday of the
month. Specific details of date, time and program can be found in
"Branches".
TNT also organizes Day Trips to nearby events and attractions and which are
announced at TNT meetings.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Two Sunday School classes are available especially for the older adult age
group:
EMPTY NEST
A group of couples and singles who meet during the 9:20
Sunday School hour for Bible study and sometimes include programmed video
lessons. Additional activities include trips and a monthly luncheon.
SUNTREE’S
OLDER
KIDS (SOK’s)
A group of older adult women who meet during the 9:20
Sunday School hour for Bible study and close mutual support. They also have
planned events and spontaneous get-togethers. New members are always welcome.
MUSIC
Several opportunities to serve are available including Chancel Choir, Praise
Choir and Bell Choir.
Journey Early Bird Program
EARLY BIRDS meet at 5:00 pm on Wednesdays for dinner followed by a program of
fellowship and Bible Study. Pastor Clarence Van Ens leads this older adult
group.
SMALL GROUPS
The church strongly encourages everyone to be a member of a Small Group.
Through Small Groups, you can grow in your faith and find support for life’s
struggles. Small Groups generally meet in homes, each with it’s own unique
theme and program. For more information, contact John DeMarco at 626-3955.
GIVING
We do not give to the church because God needs our money; rather, we need to
experience the joy of giving and a thankful heart in response to our eternal
life in Jesus, our Savior.
TRANSPORTATION
A need exists for providing rides for older adults who would like to attend
worship and church activities but are no longer able to drive. Contact
Congregational Care, if you need a ride or can provide ride (255-7378).
OTHER
Many other opportunities for service, worship and fellowship are available
for all ages, which gladly include us older adults. Especially recommended are:
Disciple, Stephen Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, and Visitation.
Additional information about the various missions and activities are
available in "Branches, in the church office, or by calling Bob and Joni
Van Kley at 259-4640.
