Saturdays are the primary work days when the
majority of the volunteers are available to work. The Team Leader provides
supervision. In addition, work can be performed during the week, Tuesday
through Friday. The HFH Site Supervisor normally provides supervision on
these days. At the present time, a group normally works Thursday mornings.
These weekday workers provide the help needed to keep the construction on
schedule. Normally houses are completed in 16 - 20 weeks. When SUMC is
sponsoring a house, volunteers are solicited at the beginning of the project
to work on the various phases. Each week the church volunteer coordinator
makes sure an adequate work force is available to support the Team Leader.
The church Lunch Coordinator ensures a Sunday School Class/Small Group/etc.
is designated and willing to provide the Saturday lunch for the workers.
As of February 2007, the SUMC persons are:

Rene Rubiella |
|
Volunteer Coordinator |

Lunch Coordinator |

Mission Committee Liaison |

When SUMC is not sponsoring a house, volunteers are encouraged to work in
supporting other churches/groups building houses. Volunteers should show up
at 8 AM Saturday and will be assigned to jobs where their skills can be used
or are needed. Any questions as to what type work is being done or location
of work sites can be directed to the HFHBC Volunteer Coordinator at 255-5800
or the church Volunteer Coordinator.
Volunteer are required to sign a Release Of Liability each year.
In the future, when SUMC is sponsoring a house, it is planed to have a
weekly e-mail to those volunteers with e-mails. This should significantly
improve communications and assist the church Volunteer Coordinator in
getting the proper people for each week’s work.
In addition, it is planned to provide a monthly e-mail to volunteers to
keep them informed of activities and plans.
Each year, normally the first Saturday in March, HFHBC sponsors a
strawberry festival at the pavilion at Wickham Park. The funds raised exceed
$50,000 and support the Habitat for Humanity program. Volunteers are needed
in a variety of activities. Information can be obtained from the HFHBC
Volunteer Coordinator or from the church Volunteer Coordinator. This is a
great way to support HFH for those not interested in construction work on
houses.
